USDINR OPENED WEAKER AT 69.29/30


  • On Monday , USDINR opened 8 pips weaker @ 69.29/30.

  • Early trade rupee slipped 18 pips against greenback.

  • Trump on Sunday increased pressure on China to reach a trade deal by announcing he will hike U.S. tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods this week and target hundreds of billions more soon.

  • Asian Marker hit badly on trade negotiation.

INTRADAY RANGE - 68.94 ( 69.17 -69.51 ) 69.70

  • On Friday , The rupee appreciated by 22 pips to 69.21/22 against the US dollar on driven by weakening of the greenback in overseas markets and sustained foreign fund inflows.

  • Selling of the American currency by exporters, fresh foreign fund inflows and positive opening in domestic equities supported the rupee.

  • At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened on a weak note at 69.39, but gathered momentum and rose to a high of 69.4250.

TRADE WAR IMPACT

  • The safe-haven yen climbed and the yuan slid on Monday after US President Donald Trump threatened to raise tariffs on China and Beijing was reported to be considering cancelling talks planned for this week, sending riskier assets into a spin.

  • The Wall Street Journal reported sources saying Beijing might cancel talks with their US counterparts in Washington planned for Wednesday. CNBC followed with a report that China would "likely" cancel the trip.

  • The futures market on Monday moved to price in an even greater chance of a rate cut this year as Trump's tariff warnings were seen as a risk to the global economy and business sentiment.
