  • The country's foreign exchange reserves rose by USD 1.368 billion to reach USD 420.055 billion in the week to May 10 on account of a rise in foreign currency assets, RBI data showed Friday.

  • On Friday, Snapping its three-session winning streak, the rupee Friday declined by 20 paise to close at 70.23 against the US dollar as rising crude oil prices and recent foreign fund outflows weighed on investor sentiment.

  • At the interbank foreign exchange (forex), the domestic currency opened at 70.22 a dollar and fell further to touch the day's low of 70.32. It finally settled at 70.23 per dollar, down 20 paise over its previous close.

AUSTRALIA

  • The Australian dollar got a boost against the greenback on Monday following a surprise election victory by the country's conservative government, while the yen dipped slightly on a recovery in market sentiment.

  • The Aussie was the big mover early in Asia and was last up half a per cent at $0.6904, having bounced from a four-month trough of $0.6865. It was briefly quoted as high as $0.6990 but dealers said that was a miss-hit and the true dealt peak was $0.6938.

  • The currency's upward swing came after Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison's center-right Liberal National Coalition booked a shock win in federal elections, beating the center-left Labor party, who had been tipped to win.
