TUESDAY - USDINR & DOLLAR ON BACK-FOOT !!

USDINR likely to commence trading on Tuesday with positive note as dollar index slip on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said late on Monday the outlook for the world's biggest economy is "extraordinarily uncertain" and will depend both on containing the corona virus and on government efforts to support the recovery.

  • On Monday , USDINR was in range bound between 75.53 - 75.6575 before finished at 75.5750 levels.

  • Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for human trials, making it India's first domestic candidate to get the green light from the government's drug regulator as cases surge in a country with more than 1.3 billion people.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 1600 hours local time (1030 GMT) on Tuesday, his office said on Twitter late on Monday, but did not provide any details on the subject of his speech.

  • India on Monday banned 59, mostly Chinese, mobile apps including Bytedance's TikTok and Tencent's WeChat in its strongest move yet targeting China in the online space since a border crisis erupted between the two countries this month.

GLOBAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sterling traded at $1.2300 , after sliding to a one-month low of $1.2252 on Monday on concerns about how Britain's government will pay for its planned infrastructure program following Prime Minister Johnson's promise to increase spending.

  • The USD/JPY has climbed to 107.75 , having touched a three-week high of 107.885, though it was capped by its 100-day moving average around that level.

  • The safe-haven Swiss franc eased to 0.9511 per dollar and 1.0697 per euro.

  • The EUR/USD stood at $1.1242, having gained a tad against the U.S. currency on Monday.

  • There are also doubts about whether Britain will seal a trade pact with the European Union as little progress has been made in agreeing on Britain's future relationship with the bloc, which it exited on Jan. 31.

  • United States began eliminating Hong Kong's special status under U.S. law on Monday, halting defence exports and restricting the territory's access to high technology products as China prepares controversial national security legislation for Hong Kong.
